Motorcycle riding can still be enjoyable in the cold months， butit’s highly advisable to protect yourself against single-digit orlower temperatures． The Finns have found merino sheep’s wool to behighly effective， so we can warmly recommend rukka Moody thermalbase layers． They will keep you warm and dry even in cold winterweather．

This is due to the merino sheep’s wool， which is ideal for baselayers， unlike most other natural fibres．

The secret of merino sheep’s wool is the exceptionally fine fibres，which are many times thinner than the wool fibres from other sheep．Its highly ”crimped” structure also plays an important part． That’swhy merino fibres can be used to produce fabrics that are extremelysoft to the touch and therefore much more comfortable against theskin． The effect of the crimped structure is to trap air， therebyproviding effective thermal insulation， so you stay warm even whenthe thermometer drops below zero．
Merino wool also has other desirable properties． It’s naturallybreathable， dirt-repellent， odour-absorbing and fast-drying． Thewool is also able to absorb moisture almost equivalent to its owndry weight without feeling damp or losing its thermal insulationeffect， in contrast to cotton， for example． All these propertiesmake it ideal for base layers．
